THE GOLDEN CUCUMBER
Once upon a time, there was an old husband and wife lived in the small village. They had no children. They hoped that God would give them a child one day. They prayed every day and every time.
One day the wife went to the forest, she was collecting pieces of wood for sale. Suddenly, she was surprised by gold cucumber. She said,” Oh, God! A big gold cucumber, I will bring it home. My husband will surprised to see it.”
The wife came home, she called her husband.
“Father, Father! Look! What do I bring?” said the wife.
“Wow, it’s a gold cucumber! What is it inside, my wife?” said the husband.
“Let’s break it down. Who knows we get luck,” said the wife.
They broke down the gold cucumber in two pieces. Again they were surprised by the crying baby from inside of the cucumber.
“Oh, God! We have a baby, oh the baby is a girl. Thanks God, now we have a daughter,” said them. Then, they gave the name “Timun Emas” because she was from a gold cucumber.
Suddenly, a big giant came to the husband and the wife. He was a green giant. He gave a baby to that family. He said,”If Timun Emas becomes teenager, give her back to me. I’ll eat it. Hmm... delicious, the young bones!”
They agreed but they begged to let Timun Emas growed adult. Then the giant went into the forest.
Seventeen years later, Timun Emas became a beautiful girl. But her parents wasn’t happy because the green giant would came soon and brought Timun Emas. They told to Timun Emas about her.
Suddenly, the green giant came and said,”Hi, the woman, where’s Timun Emas? I’m hungry, it’s time to eat the young bones ho...ho...ho....”
Timun Emas’s mother was afraid. She asked her daughter to run out soon. She gave her daughter some needles, “trasi” and salt to throw away, when the green giant came near her. Timun Emas would be safe from the giant.
“Timun Emas... Timun Emas come here! I’m hungry,” called out the giant while running after her.
Timun Emas threw the needles soon. Then... What happened?
The prickly plants spread surronding the green giant. It was time for Timun Emas to avoid the giant, she ran and ran away.The giant never stopped to run after her. He came near and near. Then, she threw the second thing. And, the trasi changed to be large cucumber garden.
The green giant was busy to eat cucumber’s. “Now it’s time to run I have to save from him, but there is just one thing left. Oh, God hep me please!” said Timun Emas.
Timun Emas was bery tired. What a pity! She was alone in the forest. She was far from her mother and her house. She didn’t know, where would she go. At the same time, a young handsome man came near her. She was surprised. He was a prince. He looked at her and said, “Oh, you are the beautiful girl. It’s a pity you are! Let’s go to my palace. I’ll marry you dear.”
Finally Timun Emas and the prince married and they were happy forever.
